About Us

Chronic pain affects millions of people worldwide, dramatically reducing quality of life and accounting for most outpatient doctor visits.

At the Napadow Lab, we’re solving this puzzle by mapping how the brain contributes to and even maintains chronic pain. Our pioneering work uses advanced, non-invasive neuroimaging to visualize brain circuitry during pain experiences.

We evaluate promising non-pharmaceutical treatments for pain, including acupuncture, neuromodulation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness meditation, as well as non-conventional pharmaceutical options such as psychedelics. By understanding how these approaches affect brain function, we’re developing more effective interventions for chronic pain.

Our research bridges neuroscience and clinical practice to help transform pain management and improve patients’ lives.

The Napadow Lab is embedded within the Schoen and Adams Discovery Center for Chronic Pain Recovery at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH). We are also closely aligned with the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Center for Integrative Pain NeuroImaging (CiPNI), which straddles both SRH and MGH.
